Running with Nanos

Nike Plus

Shoes that talk to your iPod, so your iPod can talk to you. Serious geekery for runners. I normally think of Steve Mann and his crazy computer getup (sorry, Steve, but you really aren’t a cyborg) when I think of wearable computing, but I like Nike’s direction better as it has a little more style.

Where was this Nike+ and Apple collaboration a couple of weeks ago when I was competing in my first 10k run? If my running shoes could all the sudden connect to my iPod and speak to me what would they have told me?

“You have completed .5 km or 5% of your goal and we are tired – give it up, buddy.”

“See that hot looking pair of Adidas twins over there? Let’s go get stinky with them.”

“Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Now? Now?”
