Womma Womma Washington

I just got back from the Word of Mouth Marketing Association conference in Washington, DC. The event was well-run, well attended and well worth the time. I also had the honour of being the lunch keynote speaker at the event. Presenting Something from Nothing – The World RPS Society story. Moreover the presentation was followed by an RPS tournament by everyone in attendance. If the feedback I received was any indication, then it must be considered a big success. Seeing the blur of over 400 fists in motion simultaneously is an interesting sight.
The most telling thing about the event for me was at the day 1 after party when I spoke with Jim Calhoun of Popular Media and Dustin from Move.com who had met because they had a match of RPS together. It really solidified the notion of RPS as a corporate icebreaker (more on this soon).

Congratulations to Becky (sorry didn’t catch the last name) for her outstanding achievement in beating out all her competitors in the street RPS championship and then soundly trouncing the other top four finalists.
The rest of the conference was very interesting with some great speakers and authors, but what really impressed me was that in several sessions several vendors in similar spaces were placed together, which made for some interesting discussion, debate and most importantly differentiation between them.

I wanted to personally thank WOMMA (particularly Andy Sernovtiz, Gregory Fine and Teresa Nelson Buescher) for allowing me to present and throwing a great event.
I will blog a bit more on the sessions I really enjoyed as soon as I can catch my breath.
